 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY

The American Legion held its first National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, November 10 – 12, 1919 and adopted a constitution under which a woman’s Auxiliary to the American Legion was recognized. Chartered by Congress in 1920, the first American Legion Auxiliary National Convention was held in Kansas City, MO, and in 1925 the National Headquarters moved to the War Memorial Plaza in Indianapolis, IN.

Q: I am related to someone who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibilty dates. Can I join the Auxiliary of The American Legion?

A: If your relative who served on active duty and is a member of The American Legion, you may join the American Legion Auxiliary of The American Legion. However, if the qualifying veteran is deceased you may join the appropriate organization, even if the qualifying veteran was not a member of The American Legion when living.

B: The American Legion Auxiliary is now accepting male spouses as Auxiliary Members. Spouses must be a current member of the American Legion. However, if the qualifying veteran is deceased you may join the organization, even if the qualifying veteran was not a member of The American Legion when living. 


Contact your local American Legion Auxiliary Unit, complete the application and proudly join the AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY.
